The very unfavourable conditions on the Spanish market have meant that tens of thousands of firms have had to look overseas for new business. Exports bring in some € 18,000 million each year and the search for new contracts overseas is hotting up.
According to the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX in its Spanish initials) the countries leading the table are: France; Germany; Portugal and Italy. As far as industries are concerned, the following are particularly significant: chemicals; raw materials; semi-manufactured goods and fashion.
“Going international” is one of the very few lifeboats still afloat in the storms of recession and a good measure of this is that from the 25,000 firms exporting in the year 2000 there were 43,176 in 2011 which is a 75% rise over 11 years.
In 2012, International Team Consulting has helped over 120 Catalan and Spanish companies in their quests to go overseas. Our clients have found there best markets to be the leading European ones and the Maghreb.
