A group of Brazilian businessmen at Construmat in Barcelona to contact suppliers for the construction of 1 Million houses.

Led by the Brazilian Minister for Cities, Aguinaldo Ribeiro, the Trade Mission will be visiting the 18th Edition of Europe’s foremost construction exhibition Construmat. The aim is to divulge the goals of the “Minha Casa, Minha Vida” (My Home, My Life) Programme which is one of the mainstays of the second phase of the Progama de Aceleración del Crecimiento (Accelerated Growth Programme) (PAC2)

PAC2 will concentrate on encouraging investment in infrastructure partly financed using tax rebates and relief. The main objectives will be improvements in transport, energy, water, electricity, urban development, health and a home for all.

The goal is to reduce the lack of housing and to guarantee the majority of the population access to their own homes. The budget for 2011-2014 is R$ 279 billion (€ 111 billion). An interesting part of the Programme is to transform favelas into organised neighbourhoods.

In the coming two decades Brazil’s population is expected to reach 230 million which will require the construction of 37 million housing units in the whole country. This opens up enormous opportunities for: construction companies, suppliers of building materials, engineering firms and architects.

The Brazilian mission hopes to be able to tap into European expertise and to contact suppliers and construction companies to cover the needs of the people. Consider the Fair as a jumping off point for the South American market.
